Wednesday Message September 29, 2021
Dear West Cummington, here is a brief message about the passion of marriage, soothing and seething.
“Careless Love” is by Ray Charles. But you knew that.
“Burning Fire” is by Otis Spann. You probably didn’t know that.
Time to get the wood split and stacked, the gardens put to bed.
Take a breath of autumn; it doesn’t last long. - Steve

Wednesday Message September 22, 2021
Dear West Cummington, wherever you are: actually West Cummington isn’t on the map, so all this is either a moot point or an open question.
Nevertheless, here’s a Wednesday message featuring “Roll Call”, a poem by William Stafford about what is passing. Also Psalm 148, about the abundance of creativity in this crazy universe.
The music:
- William Blake's poem "Night," set to music and sung by Greg Brown.
- And you can promenade out to “Walkin’ With Mr. Lee” by the great R&B tenor sax player, Lee Allen.

In this twilight time it’s hard to tell whether we’re coming or going. The Covid and vaccine numbers are getting better and worse at the same time. We can do more but we’re not back to normal. That 2019 “normal” may already be a relic. Whatever comes next won’t be exactly that.
Nothing has diminished the need to gather, to connect, to be alone with each other, to sing and pray togethe. We are constantly testing and tweaking our Sunday practice, see current ground rules. Each Friday the deacons and I determine whether we’ll be indoors, outdoors or Zooming.
Wednesday Message September 15, 2021
Dear West Cummington, It’s good to be back.
I’ll try to send this out before our latest storm does/doesn’t/ roll through. The message includes a story from Elie Wiesel and a brief argument. “Bright Morning Stars” is one of the most beautiful songs Penny sings.
Peace — and see you Sunday,
Steve

Dear West Cummington, What a time! Floods for the drenched, dry winds for the forest fires.
Here’s food for the hungry:
01) "Blues Of Bechet" Sidney B on clarinet.
02) A message about the waters of ruin and the waters of life.
03) "Raining In My Heart" Slim Harpo, a classic from Louisiana.
Peace and light, Steve
